Abstract

The number of patients with congenital cleft of the upper lip and palate is steadily increasing, therefore, medical and social rehabilitation of this heavy contingent of disabled children is one of the most urgent medical and social problems. Disruption of the functional activity of the dissociated muscles of the upper lip is of great importance. If the circular muscle of the mouth is normally represented as a muscular ring, then with a cleft, the muscle fibers are separated, located along the edges of the cleft, directed upward, ending at the base of the columella and the base of the nasal wing. This work is devoted to the study of the echographic characteristics of the upper lip and alveolar process in children with cleft lip and palate, both before and after primary cheiloplasty. Special attention is paid to changes in soft tissues, the degree of their asymmetry, the thickness of the scar, as well as the possibilities of ultrasound examination for planning further stages of treatment.
